Helpful Hints

You can always find the readings (Sundays and weekdays) on the US bishops’ website.  Enter “USCCB” in your search engine (or just go to http://www.usccb.org/ ) and use the calendar that appears on the right side of the screen.  On several Sundays on this schedule there is a choice of readings, only some of which are written on this schedule.  Use your good judgment.

The readings in the Children’s Lectionary are from the Contemporary English Version (CEV), although I think the CEV has been slightly revised since the publication of the Children’s Lectionary.  You can find the readings just as they appear in the Children’s Lectionary here:  http://www.pflaum.com/readings/ .

Mary Kate will continue to send simplified readings, partly because this serves as a reminder to the leaders who are scheduled.  Sometimes the readings in the children’s lectionary are slightly different from the readings in the adult lectionary.  Mary Kate may or may not note this, but she does try to be helpful!

You do not have to use the readings Mary Kate sends, and if you do use them, you do not have to use them exactly as she sends them.  For example, sometimes (probably, often) you may want to omit or shorten a reading.

Details

Please let Lynn or Mary Kate know if there are any errors in the Contact Information or if you would like more or different phone numbers or email addresses on the list.

If you cannot do one of “your” Sundays, either switch with someone or contact Mary Kate and she will find someone to replace you.  If you switch among yourselves, please let Mary Kate know.

We were hoping that the fall would bring us greater numbers of children - enough to make our two groups viable - but that seems not to be the case.  We will continue to assign two leaders on most Sundays, but the two leaders should feel free to arrange informally to combine the groups.

When we find the small numbers discouraging, we need only think of how important every single child is - and perhaps especially so at this time of surfacing intolerance and hatred in our country and our world.  On the brighter side, we can also think of those little smiles and waves we get from the children as they accompany their parents to and from the altar in the Communion procession.  What greater privilege could we have than leading these little ones closer to God!

Thank you for your continued dedication to our ministry and careful preparation even for our small groups.  Blessings always!
