St. Paul''s Men's Group Spring 2017

Dear Parishioner:

The St. Paul’s Men’s Group is pleased to announce its Spring 2017 schedule.  The Group meets on certain Saturday mornings during the year.  The purpose of the Group is to share fellowship and a meal, engage in prayer, and learn about and discuss timely topics of interest.  There is no membership roster and there are no membership dues.  And there is no hidden agenda.  The Group is a means by which men of the parish, and their guests, can come to know one another and share time together.

This Spring, the Group will meet three times.  All of the meetings will be from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. in the Commons.  The three meeting dates, along with the topics of discussion, are as follows:

  • February 4 – The Code of Canon Law requires a bishop to submit a letter of resignation to the Pope when the bishop turns 75 years old. Bishop Francis DiLorenzo of the Diocese of Richmond turns 75 in April 2017.  Francis Muench, the Judicial Vicar of the Diocese, will speak about the Vatican’s process of selecting a new bishop.

  • March 4 – Parishioner Michael Wade is the Sheriff of Henrico County. In that capacity, Mike has instituted programs to address the problems of substance abuse and mental illness among the inmate population.  Mike will make a presentation on these problems and the programs that are in place to address the problems, and will offer suggestions for further advancements in these areas.

  • April 1 – Parishioner Lynn Tucker is a partner in the Richmond law firm of Dankos, Gordon & Tucker. Her practice focuses on estate planning and real estate.  Lynn will speak about the often frightening and confusing topic of estate planning, and will offer suggestions to simplify the process and to ensure that your wishes are followed.  This gathering will be open to all – men and women alike.

During my time as your Pastor, I have attended a number of the gatherings of the Men’s Group.  I have found the Group to be welcoming, engaging, prayerful, and inquisitive.  The presence of the Group plays a vital role in giving the men of the parish a vehicle to gather, discuss and break bread.  I encourage you to attend the gatherings when you are able, and to bring a friend.

If you have questions about the Men’s Group or would like more information, please contact Deacon John Tucker at or 804-837-4900.  I hope to see you at the gatherings.
