Christian Formation

Over the past several months, our way of living and worshiping has changed dramatically.  Parish life feels fragmented as we deal with the necessary restrictions of social distancing.  I think we all realize, that for the foreseeable future, our lives will proceed differently.  With that in mind, we are seeking new ways to minister to our families.  Even though public masses have resumed, we will continue to offer Sunday Mass, daily Mass and weekday reflections on our Facebook page.

We have selected a Pflaum Gospel Weeklies as our Religious Education program for children from Pre-K through 8th grade.  Recognizing that many parents now have the additional responsibility of home-based learning for their children we chose a program that could be family oriented and easily incorporated into your schedulePflaum Gospel Weeklies is such a program.

Pflaum Gospel Weeklies is centered on the Sunday liturgy, is easy to teach, and can involve the whole family.  The program consists of a Catechism handbook—What the Church Believes and Teaches—, plus 32 weekly Gospel-based lessons.  The Catechism handbook helps children to understand the basics of the Catholic faith while the weekly lessons help them apply it to their daily lives.

In addition to digital access, each child will receive a printed copy of the Catechism Handbook, plus the 32 Gospel weeklies.   Pflaum provides you with a simple to use, two-page parent teaching guide for each lesson.  For families with multiple age-groups, there is an option to use just one lesson plan for all of your children.  There are also wonderful online resources which you may use to enhance your discussions, including short videos to help explain the Gospel story, activity sheets and games.

The Sunday Scriptures are the foundation of the Gospel Weeklies.  With this program, one of the key points of this program is flexibility.  If your family is not able to come to Mass, you can read the Sunday Scriptures together, and watch Mass on our Facebook page (with the added bonus of staying in you pjs!), and then use the Gospel Weeklies as a way to further discuss the Gospel story.

If you would like to register your child for Religious Education, please download the registration form Religious Education Registration Form 2020-2021and mail it to the church office.  If your child needs to receive a sacrament this year, please make sure you indicate the sacrament needed, and I will contact you directly.   Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions.  My office number is 329-0473, ext. 140 and my email is [email protected]
