St. Paul Catholic Church on the northside of Richmond is twinned with Our Lady of Sorrows parish in Poulie, Haiti, a relatively short but bumpy ride east of Lascahobas. Our Lady of Sorrows is a young parish. The pastor, Pere Delathou, is only the second pastor at the church. The parish has a primary school containing 9 classes and 9 teachers as well as a director. The school has 250 students and four of the classes are taught inside the church while the remaining five classes are taught outdoors under sheet metal covering and modest benches. St. Paul has two collections a year to fund the teacher and director salaries.
Parishioners have previously visited Poulie to meet with the former pastor and share in the worship at Our Lady of Sorrows. Unfortunately, at this time it is not sufficiently safe to travel to and within Haiti. Supportive communication may be sent to Father ("Pere") Delathou at pdelath@yahoo.fr. In the future, we hope to have Pere Delathou visit St. Paul Church for a presentation and weekend liturgies.
